To subscribe to Focus, please email Stacey Hatfield. ________________________________________2009 Edition of The Blue Book PublishedThe Nevada Construction Industry Relations Committee (NCIRC) has published the 2009 edition of The Blue Book: A Reference Guide for the Nevada Construction Industry. Copies of the booklet are being mailed to all registrants in May. The last edition was released in 2004. NCIRC is composed of representatives from all of the state boards and agencies involved in the design and construction industry. Members include the Board of Architecture, Interior Design and Residential Design, the Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, the Board of Landscape Architecture, the Contractors Board, the State Fire Marshal, the Public Works Board and the Nevada Organization of Building Officials. The Blue Book is a free reference manual developed for building officials, design professionals, contractors and the public. The booklet is intended to provide readers with a summary and guide to key elements of the laws, regulations and policies governing design and construction in the state of Nevada. It includes information about the role and duties of each design and construction professional, as well as information about standards for building plans. The last section in the manual covers Frequently Asked Questions. ________________________________________Board Issues Notice to Churches and Ministries Expanding in NevadaThe board issued a notice that is being sent to churches and ministries expanding in Nevada. The purpose of the educational letter is to educate these groups about hiring a properly licensed design professional. The purpose of this educational letter is to inform the associations and architectural review committees that architects and residential designers are both qualified under the law to design homes in Nevada. These notices are intended to educate persons who may not be fully aware of NRS 623, the statute governing architecture, registered interior design and residential design. The three groups targeted in the educational letters are general contractors, drafting firms and interior designers. The booklet, A Consumer's Guide to Hiring Architects, Residential Designers and Registered Interior Designers, explains what each profession does and gives readers tips on how to select, and contract with, a design professional. Another board publication, Filing a Complaint: And Other Information About the Investigation and Enforcement Process, was published in 2001. Both publications are free.
